Benefits of Shaolin Chi Kung practice
A question that I and my students are often asked is ‘Why do you practice Chi Kung, what are you getting from it’?
Our answers usually cover areas such as good health, better focus and efficiency at work, more energy, more relaxed, more at peace, happier, freer, less anxious, a more sound sleep, increased immune system, many have overcome chronic pain, while still others have overcome a chronic illness such as asthma, diabetes, back problems, arthritis, tinnitus, high blood pressure, knee problems, crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, fibromyalgia, anger, , anxiety, depression, stress and so on.
Speaking for myself, it helped me overcome a bad neck and back injury with a wheelchair prognosis. The very first time I was led into a Chi Kung state of mind by my Sifu (Grandmaster Wong Kiew Kit), I felt as if a lead weight has been lifted from me, it gave me a beautiful feeling of freedom and lightness. In that session, I just knew that going to Malaysia for a 3 day course was not so daft after all!
Month by month as I practiced on a daily basis, the pain became less (sometimes it got worse as cleansing occurred but I persevered). I knew there was a change happening in my whole body and in my emotions. I had hope for the first time in a long while, and I could also feel that things were changing for the good inside of me.
Within 6 months I was free of pain, but I was afraid to believe for another two months. Perhaps we always have a little fear inside of us that we will regress. However 17 years later and I have never been healthier, I have not been to a doctor in all of that time. My Chi Kung practice is a very important part of my day, each day brings something new, and I enjoy observing as my own experiences and skills deepen.
I was very blessed to have been guided to a genuine Chi Kung Grandmaster, who transmits high level Chi Kung as not all Chi Kung is the same. Many schools just teach Chi Kung exercise omitting the transmission of even basic skills of entering into a Chi Kung state of Mind and Chi Flow. A Chi Kung exercise class is a nice class to go to but it may not be powerful enough to overcome chronic conditions.
The words ‘Chi Kung’ means Energy Art not exercise art. It is the flow of energy through the meridian system that makes Shaolin Chi Kung so powerful to enable healing from many different chronic illnesses. From the Chinese medical paradigm, all illness is caused by energy blockage, we do not even have to know the Western medical diagnosis, once the energy blockage is cleared, good health is restored. Our expertise in Shaolin Wahnam is in knowing how to clear the blockage in a safe and long lasting way.
